Pro-Aging, Firming & Renewal — A Morning Practice for Your Skin, Your Soul & the Life You're Building
Your Skin Is Your Most Visible Organ — And It Has a Lot to Say
We talk a lot about wellness. We track our sleep, watch what we eat, move our bodies, tend to our mental health. But we often treat our skin as separate from all of that — as something cosmetic, something surface-level, something we attend to out of vanity rather than vitality.
Here's what I want you to hear: your skin is your largest organ. It is the only one you can see and touch directly. And it is one of the most honest communicators your body has.
Dullness, puffiness, loss of firmness, uneven tone, breakouts in your 40s and 50s — these are not just signs of aging. They are messages. Your skin reflects your sleep, your stress levels, your hormonal landscape, your hydration, your nutrition, your nervous system. When you pay attention to what it shows you on the outside, you begin to obtain insight into what is happening on the inside.
Caring for your skin is not indulgence. It is intelligence. It is an act of deep self-respect — and one of the most powerful, high-yield investments you can make in your longevity and your well-being.
"The skin doesn't lie. When you learn to listen to it, it becomes one of your greatest wellness teachers."
There is a ritual I return to every single morning, and it has nothing to do with my to-do list or my phone. Before my feet even touch the floor, I begin.
I move — slowly, intentionally — using gentle somatic movements that tell my nervous system: you are safe, you are supported, today begins from a place of ease. Then I rise, walk to the window, and let the morning sun find my face. I make my coffee with the kind of quiet reverence most people reserve for ceremony. And then I go to my bathroom mirror — and I begin to care for my skin.
This is not a beauty routine. This is a wellness practice. And after more than 17 years of curating plant-based skincare and walking alongside clients on their healing journeys, I can tell you with absolute certainty: the two are the same thing.
The Morning That Changes Everything: Somatics, Sunshine & Skincare
I want to share a framework with you — not as a prescription, but as an invitation — the kind of morning that I have found, both personally and through my coaching work, sets the nervous system, the mood, and the skin up to thrive.
Step One: Somatic Movement Before Your Feet Hit the Floor
Most of us launch ourselves out of bed and directly into the demands of the day. Our nervous systems, still groggy and vulnerable, get hijacked before we've had a chance to anchor ourselves. As a young professional in my younger years, that’s what we thought created success! It was right up there with being “skinny” as a way to measure beauty. This had nothing to do with strength, tone or muscle development – just “skinny”. We paid little attention in those days to our longevity, vitality, best health or quality of life. Much less understanding our nervous systems or the gut-brain axis.
Somatics is the practice of using slow, mindful movement to communicate safety and ease to your body — to consciously shift your nervous system into the parasympathetic state (rest-and-digest) before the world asks anything of you. Even five minutes of gentle stretching, breathwork, or intentional body scanning while you're still in bed can change the entire trajectory of your day. Doing so will make your soma (your full self) aware that the body is on board to support you.
On my Amayesing You platform, Somatics is one of the foundational tools I offer clients — because when your nervous system is regulated, everything responds better. Your skin included. Chronic stress elevates cortisol, which breaks down collagen, disrupts the skin barrier, and accelerates the signs of aging. Regulation is, quite literally, anti-aging.

Step Two: Coffee with Intention
I am a coffee person. I make no apologies for this. My morning cup is ritual — slow, warm, and I like it light and sweet. And there is actually science behind why this matters: the act of slowing down around something pleasurable activates your rest-and-digest state, allowing your body to absorb nutrients better, think more clearly, and feel more grounded.
Pair your coffee with a moment of genuine stillness — no scrolling, no news — and you've given yourself something most people never do: a true beginning to the day. Begin your day slowly – it’s a gift!
Step Three: Sunshine for Your Happy Hormones
With coffee, I try to stand or walk in morning light, with no sunglasses or filters obstructing true sunlight. Natural sunlight in the early hours helps regulate your circadian rhythm, boosts serotonin (your feel-good neurotransmitter), and signals your body to reduce melatonin so you feel genuinely awake. It is one of the simplest, most powerful mood tools available to us — completely free, completely natural. Even a few minutes on the back porch with the morning light on your face is transformational. Your skin is part of that equation too — moderate morning sun exposure (before peak UV hours) supports vitamin D synthesis, which plays a role in skin cell renewal and immune function. “How your mind and body feel during the first few hours after waking has a strong influence on the rest of your day. Following evidence-based waking and morning protocols can support energy, hormone and neurotransmitter levels that contribute to a focused, productive and subjectively more enjoyable (or at least pleasant) day.” Read more @ Light Exposure and Circadian Rhythm from Huberman Lab.

Step Four: Your Skincare Practice — Never Missed
Then comes the mirror. And this is where, for me, the circle closes.
I have curated every product in the PUR Botanicals Skin Care line from a place of deep personal experience and over 20 years of listening — to plants, to science, and to my own skin's journey. June’s focus brings together four of the most powerful tools in the pro-aging collection, each one a cornerstone of what I call skin renewal from the inside out.
June's Pro-Aging Spotlight: Four Products, One Radiant Journey
✦ Week 1 — Complex C Moisturizer
Brightening. Protecting. Revitalizing.
Vitamin C is often called your skin's best friend — and for good reason. As a potent antioxidant, it neutralizes the free radicals that accelerate aging, brightens uneven tone, and supports the skin's natural collagen production. Our Complex C Moisturizer delivers this in a plant-based, bioavailable form that actually penetrates and works — not just sits on the surface. If your skin has been looking a little flat or dull, this is where the light comes back in.
✦ Week 2 — Retinol Night Creme
Renewing while you rest.
Nighttime is when your skin does its deepest repair work — and Retinol is one of the most research-backed ingredients available to support that process. Our plant-derived Retinol Night Creme encourages cell turnover, softens fine lines, and works in harmony with your skin's natural regeneration cycle. I think of it as the night-shift version of my self-care practice: after the movement, the light, the ritual of the day — this is the ingredient that quietly does the deep work while I sleep. Consistency is everything here. Two or three nights a week is often enough to begin seeing a visible difference in texture and firmness. Don’t forget to allow it to absorb fully and then apply moisturizer before bed. It is not recommended that you use any other exfoliant or Vitamin C products while being inside your Retinol regimen. I personally recommend people do a “round of Retinol” once or twice each year, and Vitamin C products during remaining months. Also you MUST use SPF during the day!
✦ Week 3 — Neck Reserve
Because pro-aging means caring for the whole picture.
The neck is one of the first places to show the passage of time — and one of the most neglected in most skincare routines. The skin here is thinner, more delicate, and has fewer sebaceous glands, making it especially vulnerable to crepiness and loss of tone. Neck Reserve was formulated specifically to address this — with firming botanicals, deep hydration, and ingredients that support elasticity in this uniquely challenging area. I always say: whatever you do for your face, bring it down to your neck and décolleté. The skin there is just as important, just as alive, just as worthy of care.
✦ Week 4 — Majafirm
The True Fountain of Youth — in a jar.
Majafirm is something I am genuinely proud of. Formulated with a powerful complex of firming and lifting botanicals, it targets the deeper structural elements of aging skin — loss of density, sagging contours, the soft erosion of definition that happens over time. This is not a tightening illusion; it is plant intelligence working at the level of the skin's support matrix. I have watched it become a cornerstone product for clients and customers who are ready to take their pro-aging practice seriously. When I describe it as high-yield living for the skin, I mean it: the investment you make here returns itself many times over in how you look and, more importantly, how you feel.
50 Years of Friendship, and What It Taught Me About Showing Up
This year, my dearest friend Bernadette and I are celebrating 50 years of friendship — and I am flying to California to spend some time – Mike and our dog Isabella are driving out and then he and I are embarking on a road trip circling the country and visiting family.
But first Bernadette and I can celebrate fifty years of friendship. Half a century of knowing someone, of being known. Of weathering losses and celebrating victories. Of disagreeing and coming back. Of staying — when staying was hard, and when it was easy, and when it was the most natural thing in the world and one of the only things both of us could depend on!
Bernadette is partnering with me and she handles the social media side of what we create together at PUR Botanicals Skin Care and Amayesing You, but more than that — she is a living example of everything I hope to share with people. The years have shown her how to be grounded, resilient, and present. She has been one of my greatest teachers in what it means to be a genuine friend to someone across the whole arc of a life. And a long arc it’s been!
This trip, we'll be capturing photos, reels, videos — building a library of real moments, real laughter, and real wisdom from two women who have genuinely earned their years. I’m very bad at posing, I hate the camera! But we’ll do our best to capture two friends, in the California lifestyle we came to know and love together, with a lot of years and a lot of love between them.
Watch for it. It's going to be beautiful!
"True friendship — like true self-care — is not about the grand gestures. It's about the daily practice of showing up."
The Thread That Connects It All
Somatic movement. Morning sunshine. A cup of coffee held in both hands. A skincare ritual that honors decades of learning. And a friendship that has survived and deepened across 50 years of life.
These are not separate things. They are all expressions of the same core truth: that how we care for ourselves — our bodies, our relationships, our inner lives — is how we show up for everything else. What sustains us and sets us up for a life of vitality, longevity, recovery, and aging gracefully is our focus.
Your skin is not vanity. It is a living record of your life, your health, your history, and your capacity for renewal. When you tend to it with intention and love, you are not just taking care of your face, body & hair. You are practicing the art of being well. Inside and out! Together these two approaches meet and create a holistic approach to a life well lived!
That is what the True Fountain of Youth has always been to me. Not a cream, not a treatment — though we have some very good ones. It is the daily decision to live, care, move, connect, and begin again. To age gracefully & with joy!
Every single morning.
Your June Invitation
This month, I invite you to try the full morning practice — even once. Before you reach for your phone, take five minutes of slow somatic movement in bed. Make your coffee with care. Stand in the morning light for a few minutes (better yet take a walk, look at nature’s landscape) before you look at a screen. And when you get to your bathroom mirror, treat that time as sacred! It belongs to you.
Your skin will notice. And so will you.
