AHA / BHA
Chemical exfoliation is one of the most effective tools in a pro-aging skincare routine — when used correctly. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) work differently but complementarily, addressing surface texture, tone, congestion, and cellular renewal at a deeper level than physical scrubs.
AHAs — including glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mandelic acid — are water-soluble acids that work on the skin's surface. They dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, encouraging them to shed more efficiently. The result is smoother texture, brighter tone, and improved absorption of the serums and moisturizers that follow. AHAs are particularly effective for dry, dull, or uneven skin.
BHAs — most notably salicylic acid — are oil-soluble, which means they can penetrate into the pore lining to dissolve sebum, clear congestion, and reduce breakouts from the inside out. BHAs are especially well-suited to oily, acne-prone, or combination skin.
Used together or alternated thoughtfully, AHAs and BHAs support:
- Smoother, more refined skin texture
- Brighter, more even skin tone
- Reduced appearance of pores and congestion
- Enhanced absorption of active ingredients
- Accelerated cellular turnover for a more youthful appearance
At PUR Botanicals, our AHA and BHA formulas are balanced with soothing botanicals to minimize irritation and support barrier integrity throughout the exfoliation process.
